Fresh off a collaboration with the National Jazz Museum, Oskar Mann and Martin Davis’ Book Works is back with its Spring 2023 collection. Dubbed “Where the High Notes Hang,” the collection’s first drop is made up of hoodies, crewnecks and tees that are infused with the soul and sound of jazz — the music that Book Works is built on and inspired by.
The collection kicks off with a grey hoodie that features a “Play Saxy For Me” hit on its chest and a large illustration of a man holding up a hybrid saxophone/telephone to his ear, a light-hearted nod to “sexy” saxophone music. There’s also a crewneck sweatshirt that features a rooted, floral Book Works logo treatment on its chest. The bread and butter of this first drop, however, is tees. A Muppets-like character features on the front of a tee that spells out the collection’s motif on its back, and insturment-playing frogs and alligators appear on other tees. The final tee in the collection is the one that provides the most direct reference to jazz, featuring the title of composer and saxophonist Oliver Nelson’s acclaimed 1961 album The Blues and the Abstract Truth, which features jazz standard “Stolen Moments.”
