Daniel Lee dropped off his debut swimwear campaign for Burberry (LSE:BRBY.L -1.10%) on Tuesday, picturing models at sea with photography and film from longtime collaborator, Tyrone Lebon.
The sartorial imagery, which stars Alex Schlab, Angelina Kendall, Candace Demers, Ishmael Auguiste, Kaedon Baxter, Matheus Mesquita, Sophie Alice, Tess Carter and Tianna St. Louis, sets the British fashion house’s signature checked styles in the water under a cloudy sky. Meanwhile, the brand’s fresh Equestrian Knight iconography appears across the campaign, in both white and electric blue.
Notably, the design, which features Burberry-clad knighting riding a galloping horse and a flag reading “prorsum” (Latin for “forward”), was first introduced as an entry in a public competition to create a new logo for the brand in 1901. The motif last appeared in a Burberry ad done by former chief creative officer, Christopher Bailey.
As for the clothing, the freshly-minted campaign spotlights House classics, including checked shorts, briefs, bikinis, bucket hats, and beach bags. The collection also features a check-covered life jacket, as well as beach towels. Under Lee’s new direction, which has seen the brand embrace vivid colors with a much larger force, this collection pays respect to the brand’s legacy, with a signature, beige approach.
