Global icon Dua Lipa made her first foray into fashion design with one of the industry’s greats by her side. In collaboration with Donatella Versace, the singer made her debut in the world of fashion at the Versace Pre-Fall 2023 show held in Cannes, France. In a press conference and preview in the French Riviera, Dua revealed that the idea came about with Donatella on “a night out in New York. Donatella and I have done a lot together over time, but the opportunity to step into the atelier and be a part of the Versace story has been absolutely mindblowing.”
It is no surprise that Dua is loyal friend to the house of Versace, having worn many of the brand’s pieces throughout her career. Since 2018, Dua and Versace’s relationship saw the singer wear even some of the most sought-after vintage pieces to music’s biggest events. Dua also opened and closed Versace’s SS22 show in Milan. The collection, rightly tiled “La Vacanza,” is nothing short of glamor. The collection combines both Versace’s signature styles like the Medusa emblem and recognizable motifs from Dua’s own style for the collection. The idea behind the collection hinged on looking vacation chic at all times, as suggested by both the location of the show and the collection name.
Taking some of the most iconic Versace silhouettes, models strutted down a scenic waterfront runway in outfits from one-shoulder metallic sheath dress, midi-dresses paired with a scarf bandanas, terrycloth cover-up dresses to pool lounging matching sets and bucket hats. The collection was playful in nature, highlighting a summer holiday wardrobe focusing on bubblegum pink and baby blue hues alongside polk dot patterns. The wardrobe combined Dua’s ideas to reinterpret classic Versace prints and silhouettes. All about embracing the “freedom, fun and confidence” that Donatella told the press ahead of the show, the collection details strappy sandals and butterfly motifs to match the saturated and bright palette.
