Tokyo-based label Children of the Discordance is often inspired by rebellious motifs, taking into account its founder’s personal experiences. For Spring/Summer 2024, Japanese designer Hideaki Shikama recalls his teenage adoration for British punk culture stimulated by close-knit friendships.
London and Los Angeles’ 1990s influence on skaters in Yokohama, Japan, deeply inspired the collection, recreating their defiant attire for SS24. From royal-badged cinched blazers to custom patchwork kilts with a disheveled aura, the collection is rebellious in nature. The graffiti found on international skate ramps is painted on pleated bottoms, while mismatched paisley decorates khaki anoraks, and spiked motorcycle jackets are made for the road.
Children of the Discordance’s “DAMN ROMANCE” collection finishes with shredded hoodies that reveal the figures beneath, paired with laser-cut barbed wire sweatpants and garments made from collectible football scarves.
