Central Saint Martins alumni John Alexander Skelton has learned to embrace his identity through and through, constantly honoring British landscapes on his own terms. The London-based designer has become synonymous with dated takes of classic menswear staples, often taking viewers to historic UK landmarks to present his collections.
While Fall 2023 saw Skelton travel to Scotland’s Orkney Islands, Spring/Summer 2024 heads to the London suburb of Herne Hill. The designer continues collaborating with photographer William Waterworth to capture wise men in their natural environments. This season, Skelton steps under an uplifting light, contrasting his usual moody offerings.
The fresh outdoors of Herne Hill inspires garments throughout, decorated with wood prints, botanical embroidery, and British symbolism. The designer presents century-old silhouettes with a modern twist, delivering sleeveless cardigans and illustrative shirting matched with crinkled cargos and exposed pockets. Linear detailing enhances lightweight suiting and collarless button-downs, while classic workwear is updated for hard-working country folk. Padded coats feature exposed buttons with vintage finishes, completing the collection with suspender-held trousers and handmade tophats for countryside inhabitants.
