New Delhi-based label Karu Research is teaming up with NYC creative unit Small Talk Studio to celebrate the artistic spirit of Helene Smith. The 20th-century artist and time-traveling medium was a groundbreaking element of the Surrealist movement and produced trippy artwork with a futuristic breeze.
The collaboration combines Karu-founder Kartik Kumra‘s Indian motifs with Small Talk Studio’s handmade craftsmanship. Honoring Smith’s ability to defy time and space, canvas uniforms are decorated with her otherworldly drawings illustrated by hand. The workwear-inspired items included cream-tinted jackets, shirting, and trousers, individually adorned with distinguishable illustrations. Each garment took 9-12 hours to create, reflected across Karu’s artisan-focused textile process.
