Japanese imprint Kidill embraces punk ideals in their truest form, reflecting such across its Spring/Summer 2024 collection that debuted at Paris Fashion Week.
The offering sees Creative Director Hiroaki Suiyasu adopt punk as a way of life, not something to be toyed with, manipulated, or ignored. Suiyasu’s usual chaos stood strong and stormed the runway with disruptive energy and a mind of its own. Kidill SS24 went against traditional values and l s, presenting 31 looks that battle the patriarchy.
The brand references rebellious subcultures worldwide, from London’s punk boys to US anarchist rebels. The first look to walk the runway set the tone for the defiant collection to come: square-shaped bedazzled chest armor, abstract zippered trousers, and an eerie elephant mask. Models continued wearing animalistic headgear, next time crafted from mesh with dangling ears. Gender-bending ruffled dresses and kimonos accompanied patchwork kilts and shredded knitwear with tangled spiderwebs, while metal harnesses contained flaming cartoon underpinnings.
Furthermore, gothic models were accessorized with spiked chokers and dark makeup, placed against sinister “THE LOVE WITCH” garments, army-inspired outerwear, and knee-length bomber jackets. Kidill’s SS24 collection calls on everyone to celebrate what they stand for.
