On a hot, summery day during Paris Fashion Week, Junichi Abe of Kolor brought skiwear to the runway for Spring/Summer 2024. While skiwear might be the last item of clothing on anyones mind during such high temperatures, Abe moreso took inspiration from the sport he learned as a kid, reimagining the apparel for summer.
A heavy electronic soundtrack set the tone for the runway, bringing in a retro-ski-rave vibe to the show. Not only did inspiration spark from traditional ski pieces, but also the après-ski culture. The collection combined conventional everyday pieces with sports construction, seeing a sleeveless blazer featuring a windbreaker back and sport paneling and ski cords detailing outerwear. Alpine ski sweaters and mittens saw the word “powder” spelt out along with safety orange tulle.
Abe spoke to press after the show, discussing the mismatch of materials and silhouettes to create those that were seen on the runway. The collection combines both soft tailoring and technical details to versatile pieces that are fit for everyday wear. Staying true to its state, vibrant combination of hues along as earth-tone color blocking continue to be a focal point throughout SS24.
