Yosuke Aizawa‘s White Mountaineering is known to create technical outerwear with an unequivocally Japanese identity. The cult label presented its Spring/Summer 2024 collection at Paris Fashion Week, seeing Aizawa celebrate his journey, not the destination.
White Mountaineering’s SS24 “Memories” collection observes previous experiences through a hopeful lens, exploring different timelines via metropolitan attire that combines past, present, and future. The first part of the collection showed an exclusively black range of technical garments cut from high-quality fabrics. A boxy suit with petite lapels, a dust bag-like clutch, and an explorer hat kicked off the runway, followed by asymmetrical padded tops that assure supreme comfort. Utility jackets came in all shapes and sizes, slowly injected with dashes of color that brightened things up.
Aizawa also reflected on his ’70s childhood through 1985 Back to the Future graphics printed on essential outerwear. Elsewhere, he delivered trippy knitted trousers, paisley-covered tracksuits, and pixilated uniforms that the state of digital landscapes today.
