John Lawrence Sullivan‘s androgynous personality is amplified across its Spring/Summer 2024 collection, seeing Japanese designer Arashi Yanagawa truly embrace his unconventional approach to fashion.
John Lawrence Sullivan’s SS24 “DARKDENCE” collection stands firm and hunchbacked with eerie energy, taking darkness to the next level. Yanagawa envisioned the haunting atmosphere of the Sedlec Ossuary Catholic Church in Kutná Hora, Czech Republic, packed with human remains. Stepping foot inside influenced his perspective alongside German painter Anselm Kiefer and Lithuania’s Hill of Crosses.
The deadly motifs are communicated across his menswear offering, delivering crinkled suiting with slashed gloves tinted in human bone white. Bleached katsuragi denim sets receive an aged finish, while pebbled leather trench coats boast discolored indentations as if attacked by otherworldly creatures. Elsewhere, velvet blazers are unevenly scribbled and paired with marbled blood-splattered shirting artistically produced by AHONEN & LAMBERG.
Disheveled bones, crosses, and pearls are linked across silver jewelry, completing the collection with thigh-high military-inspired footwear accessorized with endless buckles and overlapping square soles.
