Earlier this year, Yohji Yamamoto and adidas (XETRA:ADS.DE +1.67%) ‘ Y-3 launched a year-long initiative exploring athletic silhouettes through a relentless Japanese lens. Chapter 1 explored destructed elegance, while Chapter 2 previewed “Technical Effortlessness” on breezy Japanese beaches. Now, Y-3 presents its Chapter 3 collection taking inspiration from the brand’s sports-centric identity.
The collection returns to adidas’ German motherland, capturing its disruptive community in vibrant settings. Paying tribute to vintage sportswear, Fall/Winter 2023 sees padded utilitarian shirting and ringed trousers boast flapped pockets and metallic detailing. Cropped hoodies and essential blazers are clad in pure black tones, while nylon bombers and vests receive abstract embossed decor.
Elsewhere, parachute skirts are paired with deconstructed shirting and leather “Y-3 Tokyo” varsity jackets, standing beside reimagined versions of adidas Three Striped-branded tracksuits. The previous is merged into hybrid jacket-and-skirt ensembles alongside billowing bottoms with stripes on one side.
In the footwear department, the Y-3 Centennial Hi and Centennial Lo are revitalized with leather and denim uppers, frayed edges, and colossal midsoles. Finally, the Y-3 Superstar, Marathon TR, and Gazelle models rebel with smeared paint toe boxes and worn-in accents.
Y-3’s Chapter 3 Collection for FW23 captures the vibrant energy of Berlin. The collection features bold and edgy designs that reflect the city’s urban atmosphere. It combines functionality with street style, creating a unique and contemporary look. The use of contrasting colors and oversized silhouettes adds to the collection’s modern aesthetic. Overall, Y-3 successfully captures Berlin’s dynamic spirit in this latest collection.
