Singapore-based streetwear label Youths In Balaclava has expanded its creative output over recent years, diversifying its approach to design through an elevated lens. For Spring/Summer 2024, Artistic Director Taufiq Iskandar put an investigative ear against current global affairs.
Youths In Balaclava’s SS24 “Hybrid Moments” collection takes inspiration from the haunting events that have overwhelmed civilization — from Covid19 to France’s civil unrest and US gun violence. It serves as a reminder to keep each other safe while examining the cruel reality of present times.
In contrast, SS24 honors the people who find beauty in darkness through resilient attitudes. Various forms of camo print resemble never-ending war times, while bulleted blazers and luxurious silver tracksuits battle youthful rebellion. Refined leather, shimmering outerwear, and academic blazers come together inside the “Youths In Balaclava School of Hard Knocks,” asking us to question what we stand for.
