Earlier this summer, British menswear label Universal Works launched its seasonal “Hotel Deluxe” collection, primed for South Asian summer getaways. For Fall/Winter 2023, the Nottingham-based imprint embraces vintage Americana styles, heading “Far From Memphis” through anti-establishment and rebellious uniforms.
Universal Works FW23 offering is captured in a sleek and simple setting, taking the brand’s British identity to US playgrounds. The collection honors American filmmaker Jim Jarmusch and his notable comedy-drama pictures, such as Only Lovers Left Alive, The Dead Don’t Die, and Night On Earth. Jarmusch’s defiant motifs clash with rock ‘n roll elements while referencing British rock band, The Clash.
Wool checkered suiting and military camouflage prints come alive on insulating textiles, complemented by hefty pinstriped bottoms and collarless floral mohair cardigans. Quilted gilets receive a glossy finish, working next to leopard print layers and camel-pocketed work shirts. Kimono-style garments are effortlessly clad in army green tones, completing the collection with slouchy bottoms, ribbed beanies, and corduroy bucket hats.
