Japanese fashion label SOUTH2 WEST8, which takes its moniker from the street corners of its Sapporo flagship store, has long directed its sartorial lens toward the age-old method of fly-fishing, “Tenkara.” Untethered by tradition, the imprint has concocted a modern wardrobe inspired by the technique’s waders and rods, offering a ready-to-wear lineup that explores the duality of function and design. For Spring/Summer 2024, the brand has returned with a maximalist take on its source codes, with a slew of tactical wares emblazoned with unapologetic patterns and tones.
With utility in the driver’s seat, the collection comprises a wide-spanning selection of outerwear, shirting, bottoms, shorts and accessories — all with one hand on the rod. Among them, quarter-zip pullovers flaunt camouflage prints, while multi-pocket coats don similar graphics for incognito adventures in nature. Workwear shirts appear in bright monotone hues; sweaters enlist all-over triangular arrangements, and a number of button-downs opt for flannel finishes.
Down the line, checkered trousers host spacious pockets, intended for storing fishing gear, while straight-legged chinos appear in a slew of pared-back colors. Shorts land across the spectrum of maximalism and minimalism, with some earning the camo treatment and others doused in subtle tones. Rounding out the range, a selection of tie-dye wares, including collared shirts and shorts, provide a kaleidoscopic conclusion to the explosive collection.
SOUTH2 WEST8 has not yet disclosed a release window for its Spring/Summer 2024 lineup. Take a look at the collection in the lookbook above.
