Priya Ahluwalia‘s eponymous label has graced the London Fashion Week schedule with cultural references in mind, honoring its deep-rooted connection to African heritage.
AHLUWALIA‘s Spring/Summer 2024 runway show was staged inside London’s British Library — the home of historic UK literature, handwritten Beatles lyrics, and much more. AHLUWALIA’s co-ed offerings took over the marbled halls of the English landmark, tapping into refined brand staples with a cultural backbone.
The brand’s SS24 collection was backdropped by beating drums and chants to the tune of Black greatness, seeing AHLUWALIA’s artistic motifs stand strong. Abstract artwork enhanced silk ensembles with splashes of vibrant color, complemented by the brand’s refined tailoring in dynamic hues. Florals bloomed on knitted cardigans and denim outerwear, going against slouchy trackpants with formal outlines.
Warped zebra prints came alive on navy boiler suits and collarless jackets, strolling beside diamond-shaped patchwork sets with an old-fashioned feel. Torn postcards with indigenous sculptures sentimentally decorated white shirting, while “A”-embellished suiting arrived in brown and blue silk textiles.
Once the collection made its mark, Priya Ahluwalia took a prideful bow, boasting a glistening smile that allowed the audience to stand proud in gratitude.
