Jun Takahashi’s UNDERCOVER has joined forces with collage artist (and UNIQLO UT creative director) Kosuke Kawamura for a collaborative collection of intricately “shredded” apparel.
Enlisting Kawamura’s signature mangled design technique, the collection expertly utilizes layers to create a torn-up finish on outerwear, jackets, long-sleeves and T-shirts. Illustrative motifs, including those of teddy bears, a screaming woman and kaleidoscopic abstracts, are thickly coated onto the front of zip-up jackets, with alternating glossy panels offering stark contrasts for three-dimensional finishes. Hooded parkas, in green and navy, feature similar, trippy artwork on their backs, with simple crossover iconography situated on the front chest.
Down the line, collared bombers boast columnar iterations of the collaboration’s key imagery, while crewneck sweaters center the signifiers in black, white and red hues. Rounding out the range, a selection of T-shirts spotlights the aforementioned illustrations in identical tones.
The UNDERCOVER x Kosuke Kawamura collection will be available to shop online and at UNDERCOVER’s stores in Aoyama, Sendai, Kanazawa, Magoya, Kyoto and Shinsaibashi beginning September 23. Additionally, the Aoyama store will host a lottery for six “ONE OFF” pieces from the collaboration. Take a closer look at the range in the gallery above.
