CoronaVac, an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine developed by China's Sinovac Biotech Ltd., was shown to be 50.7% effective against symptomatic COVID-19 cases, according to new trial results revealed by Brazil's state-run Butantan Institute on Sunday.
"The other reason that it's so important to have access everywhere including in low-income and emerging economies is that, in the absence of that, the pandemic will just drag on and then there'll be new mutants," said Petya Koeva Brooks, deputy director of the IMF's Research Department. "And that would hurt everybody, including advanced economies," she added.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) confirmed on Wednesday that the occurrence of blood clots with low blood platelets are strongly associated with the administration of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, but should be still listed as very rare side effects.
