Fresh off a collaboration with the Grateful Dead, cult-favorite New York label Rowing Blazers has tapped Hawaiian surf brand Jams World for a kaleidoscopic range of throwback styles.
With four thematic pillars — Freedom, Difference, Color and Love — this latest collaboration is an ode to the ’90s, when Jams World’s ubiquitous shorts, “Fresh Prince” color stories and bright, color-blocked nylon silhouettes were all the rage. Using some of Jams Worlds’ deadstock fabric, the line’s centerpieces include windbreakers, shorts and tote bags made from archival nylon.
Elsewhere, the range features bold camp shirts, colorful trousers and a slew of designs donning Jams Worlds’ signature zig-zag print in black and white. Hats, including a “legionnaire” model referencing Jams Worlds’ popular ’90s style, meet genuine vintage sweaters from Jams Worlds’ past collections, while suiting separates flaunt a multi-color paint-like corduroy textile. Rounding out the range, a limited-edition surfboard, made in Hawaii, boasts Jams Worlds’ striped print with a neon pink border.
“I’ve been obsessed with Jams World for years,” said Jack Carlson, founder of Rowing Blazers. “I collect their iconic pieces from the ’90s: the legionnaire hats, the nylon windbreakers, the printed shirts, of course, the shorts. Last year, I spent a week in their archives and hanging out with the owners, Pua and Heather. It was mind-blowing. The stuff in their archives is inspiration for a hundred collections. The attitude, the sense of color, the use of language on some of the pieces…it all really resonates with me.”
The Rowing Blazers x Jams World collection is now available to shop on Rowing Blazers’ webstore, with prices ranging from $65 USD to $1,500 USD. Peruse the collaboration in the gallery above.
